My first wedding…

Everyone starts somewhere, and for me, it began with a simple Facebook post.
I was scrolling through local Vermont wedding groups when I saw Caitlin’s message:
"This is a long shot, but does anyone know of a videographer available July 8th? We found some wiggle room in the budget and it's something we would really like! TIA."

I quickly replied, “Me. I’ll send you a PM.”
Looking back, I might’ve phrased it a little more professionally — but at that moment, I was just excited for the chance. It was the perfect fit: she needed a videographer, and I was eager to get my first wedding under my belt.

Fast forward to wedding day:
Lake Bomoseen Lodge, tucked away in beautiful Lake Bomoseen, Vermont — a venue I hadn't even visited yet (which is saying something, since Vermont isn’t very big!). It quickly became one of my favorite spots.

The drive down from Burlington was peaceful, and the day itself couldn’t have been more perfect.
I was definitely nervous. I had spent weeks watching wedding films online and rented a lot of lenses — most of which stayed in the bag because the day moved so fast.

When I arrived, Caitlin and her wedding party welcomed me immediately. With that, I pulled out my camera and started filming.
We moved quickly from bridal preparations to a heartfelt father-daughter first look — a moment I’m so glad I captured from two angles. (That tiny decision paid off, and it's something I still make a priority today.)

The ceremony was the most stressful part.
I remember double and triple-checking my record button, making sure I didn’t miss the first kiss — thankfully, I didn’t!
Another decision that made a huge difference: putting a lavalier mic on the groom. Having high-quality external audio is essential for capturing the vows and little moments you can’t re-create. (If I can give one piece of advice to couples, it’s this: make sure your videographer uses external audio like lav mics — it can make or break how your ceremony feels on film.)

After the ceremony, the day flowed smoothly: family portraits, cocktail hour, and the reception.
Golden hour that evening was unreal — the sunset over Lake Bomoseen gave us beautiful, warm light for the photo and video sessions. Some of my favorite clips from that day were captured during that golden hour glow.

Since Caitlin knew it was my first wedding, there weren’t many special requests — she simply wanted the day documented naturally and joyfully.
I got to experiment, follow the energy, and really just have fun with it.

In the end, I delivered a full highlight film that told the story of their day — from the excitement of getting ready to the laughter and dancing at the reception.
Looking back, it was an incredible first experience.
I got to meet wonderful people, explore a new place in Vermont, and grow more confident behind the camera.
A little bonus: my sister Savannah came along to help (and to wrangle all the extra lenses I didn’t end up using!).

That first wedding sparked something for me — the excitement, the challenge, and the privilege of preserving moments people will cherish forever.
And that's exactly what keeps me passionate about creating wedding films today.
